Diagnose slow Cortex Agent requests from their traces: code¶
Every file in the Diagnose slow Cortex Agent requests from their traces recipe. To run the recipe, download diagnose-agent-requests.zip, unzip it, and run the scripts from the diagnose-agent-requests/ folder as the recipe describes. Comments in the files that say “see README” refer to the recipe page; the zip includes it as README.md.

sql/03_diagnose_request.sql¶
-- 03_diagnose_request.sql
-- DIAGNOSE_REQUEST(agent_fqn, request_id, model): reads one agent request's trace from
-- the documented observability UDTF, computes a time breakdown from the spans, and asks
-- one LLM call to explain it. Read-only.
--
-- Security model:
-- * EXECUTE AS CALLER. The caller needs MONITOR (or OWNERSHIP) on the agent and the
-- SNOWFLAKE.CORTEX_USER database role, exactly as for reading traces directly. The
-- procedure grants nobody anything extra.
-- * No dynamic SQL. The agent name parts and request id are validated against strict
-- patterns and then passed as bind variables to GET_AI_OBSERVABILITY_EVENTS.
-- * The model name must be in an allowlist and is passed as a bind variable.
-- * Trace content (user text, tool results) goes to the LLM as data inside a JSON
-- document; the LLM output is returned as JSON and never executed.
