Direct shares: Resharing enabled within the consumer’s organization (Pending)¶

When this behavior change bundle is enabled, a consumer who has imported a database from a provider’s direct share can reshare that data by default, but only with accounts in the consumer’s own organization. Cross-organization resharing of direct shares isn’t supported.

Before the change:

A consumer couldn’t reshare data imported from a provider’s direct share unless they built additional pipelines or dynamic tables to copy the provider’s data to reshare to another account. Attempts to reshare the data as is failed with the error PROVIDER_DATA_IS_NOT_ALLOWED_TO_RESHARE.

After the change:

By default, consumers can now reshare incoming data from a provider’s direct share within their own organization, without building additional data-copy pipelines. Cross-organization resharing of direct shares isn’t supported; to reshare data across organizations, share the data through a listing instead.

There’s no per-share control to disable resharing for an individual direct share. To disable resharing, convert the direct share to a listing, which lets you control resharing through the resharing field in the listing manifest, or contact Snowflake Support for further assistance.

Resharing lets a consumer share data they’ve imported with other accounts, and has been available for listings, where providers control it through the listing manifest. This change brings direct shares to parity with listings, so consumers can reshare data imported from a direct share with other accounts in their organization.
